An FFP face mask is a medical face mask, similar to IIR masks, where FFP stands for 'Filtering Facepiece Particles'. It provides protection for the nose and mouth. This type of mask is certified by the European Union as a respiratory protection mask that protects against various airborne viruses. The EN 149 standard divides these types of masks into 3 classes of filtration efficiency: FFP1, FFP2, and FFP3. This classification considers the filtering properties (percentage of aerosol filtration) and the extent of leakage around the edges (percentage of inward leakage).

An FFP2 mask effectively stops powdered chemicals and offers protection against flu viruses or coronaviruses.
